About Kijamii Pâtisserie & Café

About

Kijamii Pâtisserie & Café in Witten offers a unique combination of fair specialty coffee and homemade organic cakes, creating a holistic gourmet experience. The café focuses on sustainability and aesthetics: all dishes are made exclusively with organic ingredients and the ambience stands out with clear lines, honest materials, and meticulous design. Large windows allow guests to look directly into the in-house bakery, witnessing the cake and tart preparation. Kijamii also serves as a pâtisserie and confectionery, crafting various creations without pre-mixes or additives. The philosophy revolves around health, sustainability, and fair trade. Coffee beans are sourced directly from smallholders’ cooperatives in Tanzania and roasted in the café’s own roastery in Essen Rüttenscheid. Vegetarian and vegan options are central, with a strong connection to regional, certified organic suppliers. Overall, the café offers a modern, thoughtfully designed space for those who value quality, sustainability, and transparency.

Food

At Kijamii Pâtisserie & Café, all cakes and tortes are baked traditionally without chemical additives, pre-mixes, or artificial substances. All baked goods are 100% homemade and entirely organic. The bakery uses spelt instead of wheat, cane sugar instead of refined sugar, and sources all ingredients from certified organic suppliers in the region. Alongside classic cakes, Kijamii offers sophisticated tartelettes, delightful pastries, and more rustic bites, with the current selection on display in the showcase. Guests can purchase cakes to take home, and whole cakes—such as wedding and special occasion cakes—can be made to order. Vegetarian and vegan recipes are a focus, and the visible bakery highlights the café’s commitment to transparency.

Coffee & Drinks

The core of Kijamii Café is its coffee, produced with exceptional care. The high-quality Arabica beans are grown on the slopes of Mount Meru in Tanzania by smallholders practicing sustainable agriculture, hand-picked, processed locally, and delivered directly to Kijamii without intermediaries. Roasting takes place in their own roastery in Essen Rüttenscheid, combining years of experience and expertise to create the perfect roast profile. The café aims to offer one of the best and fairest single origin coffees. In addition to coffee, the selection includes three exclusive Oolong teas from Taiwan and a fine Sencha from Japan, served in small vessels for multiple flavorful infusions following traditional methods from the countries of origin.
